Community
Supporting our employees
When joining the GHB Farm team, our employees join our family. Without the tireless commitment of our staff, who keep our operations going and who are on the frontlines caring for our pigs, we would not be able to achieve the high expectations that we have set for ourselves. It is for this reason that we try to improve the lives of our people wherever and however we possibly can.
Community Projects

Stationery
Following the interruption to school attendance brought about by the COVID-19 lockdown regulations, we increased our focus on continued education in support of our employees’ families. GHB Farms purchased and packed back-to-school supplies for our team. The packs contained, among other items, highlighters, rulers, pens, pencils, stationery boxes, erasers, sharpeners, glue sticks, scissors, examination pads, water bottles, and lunch boxes.
Schooling
To alleviate the burden and stress for our employees who are parents with children of school-going age, we have provided facilities for children to attend an online school on our farm. In this way, we are supporting not only our employees but their families too. This initiative proved invaluable during the COVID-19 lockdown periods. It enabled school and university students to continue with their educational journey by providing access to computers and the internet. These are equipped with air conditioning, wifi access, rubber flooring (for improved ergonomics), tables, chairs, and electrical as well as USB outlets.
Optometry
We identified a large need among our team, insofar as many not having access to eye care or not being aware of optometric practices. Once identified, we introduced a programme to ensure that our employees have their sight and eyes screened annually and provide reading and/or seeing glasses to our visually impaired staff members. After all, they deserve the chance to enjoy the beauty that surrounds them on our farms and to see clearly the fruits of their labour.
Nutrition
Without the right nutrition and sustenance, no learning can take place. Our employees receive bi-monthly food packages, which many of our people share amongst community members in need. This is a demonstration of the caliber staff that forms part of the family.
Uplifting local communities
GHB, being a family-owned farm, extends care to the communities that surround our farms and operations. We pride ourselves in building meaningful relationships and sustainable practices within the community. Our promise is to keep investing in people, infrastructure, and towards the upskilling of the communities impacted by our farming operations.
We have made significant investments in communities through school sponsorships. We co-sponsor a local crèche in the Waaikraal Community, have begun operating an online school on our farm, and have sponsored a local orphanage, and provided reading glasses for our employees with limited or diminished eyesight.
GHB Farms has made a conscious effort, wherever possible, towards the ongoing improvement of the lives of people and communities surrounding our farms. As many of our employees and their families form part of these communities, we are dedicated to providing clean water, renewable energy sources, food, and contribute towards critical needs where these are identified.
GHB Farms has invested in the upliftment of communities of Bossemanskraal, Spitskop, and Rooipoort, in the Bronkhorstspruit area. To date, we have installed water tanks and solar panels to homes in order to improve the quality of life for the residents. This lightens the load of the daily activities and chores for the residents of the communities, enabling them to lead healthier, more productive lives.
As a family business that seeks to leave a positive and meaningful legacy for future generations, we have placed significant focus on improving the lives of the youth within communities. To this end, we have positively contributed towards the safety and development of the youths. We have to date, amongst other initiatives, built a crèche and provided free WiFi access to schools in the area.
As many of the community members are employees at GHB Farms and play a key role in the success of our business, the health and wellbeing of community members remains an area of importance to us. Part of our initiatives is to provide for our communities and maximise efficiency at our farms, and we continue to make regular donations of food to the residents of these communities.
